I saw this in a friends Facebook status update today, and although I don't usually share, had with this one because I'm feeling a little manly today.
A real woman always keeps her house clean and organized, the laundry basket is always empty. She's always well dressed, hair done. She never swears and behaves gracefully in all situations; under all circumstances. She has more than enough patience to take care of her family, always has a smile on her lips, and a kind word for everyone. Post this in your status if you too suspect that you might be a man....

Why blogs are better then Facebook updates
That was probably the main reason I gave up on the Facebook in the first place.
The updates remind me of a highschool popularity contest, likes, comments,
but the worst was only getting a snip it of a story. One line. Then your expected to guess what on earth is being talked about.
Example:
***** : shouldn't have eaten that chicken salad
From there you need to figure out why
What happened?
and you know the first comment will be asking just that. and usually by the time I see this update there are at least 30 comments , some from the salad victim slowly explaining the story, one line at a time, the rest mostly from people I have never heard of, relating sympathies or similar stories
I hate to find out what happens this way, it seems so choppy, detailed and impersonal.
Example 2:
*******: Finally got the job!
and my thought chain looks like this:
Now why blogs are better:
I know I might be a little biased, I love reading, a lot and even about people I do not know so well. You can not get that out of Facebook.

Example:
***** : shouldn't have eaten that chicken salad
From there you need to figure out why
- is she allergic to chicken?
- did she tempt fate by eating some leftovers out of the fridge that should have been thrown out last week?
- has she broken some weight watchers rule by lapping up all that mayonaise?
- did the chicken salad have onions in it giving her bad breath for the rest of the afternoon?
- is she still pulling celery strings out of her teeth?
What happened?

Example 2:
*******: Finally got the job!
and my thought chain looks like this:
- I thought she had a job
- I guess I am happy about the new job
- what happened to the old job
- I thought she liked the old job
- what is the new job
Now why blogs are better:
- More words, you can explain yourself, give a clear picture and someone who cares can understand what is going on.
- You dont need likes.
- Blogs are organized, they have archives that are easy to navigate, labels and a search function - you can find anything. And so can anyone else, that wants too.
- You don't have to declare someone your friend to show an interest in them, or them in you. You can read about someone just because you are interested.
I know I might be a little biased, I love reading, a lot and even about people I do not know so well. You can not get that out of Facebook.

So so behind - back to Facebook
This having three boys takes more time and energy then one might think,
but I have big plans,
as soon as I think of a good name I will go back to Facebook and create a page for the entire family. And I will not use it for Farmville, I promise.
Then Davíð can get his facebooking fix, and we can properly advertise this kids upcoming birthday parties.
Look for your upcoming friendship request :)
Just need a good name......

Is it true?
The other day I logged onto facebook and was hit with some real news. My brothers had befriended my Dad on Facebook.
My Dad has Facebook?
It’s the end of the world as we know it….
jk.
I wonder if he got the internet out at the farm….

Because he hates me
Davíð, feeling a little spiteful, took this horrid picture of me eating cookies on the computer.
Actually there was a series of them - but just imagine, this was the best.
But I will have my revenge and it will involve facebook, knowing he only signs in once or twice a year I can be sure everyone sees them before he untags himself.....

Facebook for real
While looking around on Facebook I saw this on a friends page - and I liked it.
So now you have to like it too.

Imported Friends
I met a girl on facebook who is from Toronto, but coming to Iceland for an extended holiday. We agreed to meet up when he got here, and I met her on Thursday.
Wow! First of all it was so good to talk for hours to someone, in person, that was from the same country as me, and had been there her whole life.
Second, the whole thing made me realize how adjusted I had become to living in Iceland, without even realizing it.
The entire conversation was things she noticed that were different to her, and me remembering how they used to bother me too, but now I have stopped noticing or just accepted them.
I have learned to drink milk in my tea and coffee, instead of cream.
I can drink much stronger coffee now! I also drink smaller cups of coffee.
I almost never eat chicken or beef anymore, and don't notice it or miss it anymore.
I take, and give to the kids, cod liver oil every morning. It is a routine.
I bring my kids to work when I need to and expect my employer to be fine with the idea. This would never have gone over in Canada.
I occasionally call in sick to do something like go grocery shopping.
I eat cake at breakfast time.
I am adjusting well, and it takes someone who is not adjusted (it has only been a few days for her) to make me see that.

Unfriending
I do not understand why, but it is fun, in a strange kind of way.
I promise I o not act like this is real life, but I have a pet peeve, friend collectors!
People that have about 500 friends on things like facebook or myspace. They may not even really know these 'friends'. They probably talk to less then a quarter of them at all.
I did not realize how many friend collectors I once considered friends.
But I will not be collected!
In order to avoid being just another number, today I unfriended a bunch of people and I will keep doing it.
If I have not talked to someone in years, had nothing to say to them then and can not find anything to talk to them about now, they are not friends.
If they are far too busy to return a message for months, they are not friends (If you read this, you know who you are...Helgi)
I am not a friend collector, but when I saw this huge 'friends list' I had, I knew there was a problem. Now the problem is fixed, but it is definitely something to keep on top of.
I would much rather have 1 good friend then 500 pretend friends.
I am not bitter - it is just a fact.

Facebook users open to cyberattacks, ID theft?
I always thought it was common sense, but now everyone should see, it is not a good idea to put all your information on Facebook. I think the biggest problem is with the extra applications - glad I don't have any!

Importing Friends
So I might not be really importing them but I met someone online today - A Canadian moving to Iceland!
I am so excited to have someone else to have coffee with.
I hate to admit that I am not adjusting as well as I should be, but it is true and I know that making more foreign friends does not help, but that is what comes most naturally.
I can relate with them more.
I think most people feel the same way - at least that is what I have noticed.
I do think it is funny that I seem to have more to talk about with people places as far away as Poland or Thailand then people from Iceland.

Land of the Ex's
Facebook, who would have known.
They call it a place to meet up with old friends, keep up with people lives.... blah blah blah
What they should say on the front page is: Ever wonder what your ex boyfriends or ex girlfriends are doing? Well let us help you reconnect!
I now have three Ex´s on my list of friends. One I talked to twice now, one I talked to once and the other, other then to decide that we are friends, I have not talked to at all.
It is great, in a way. Most people are exactly they was you left them, or they left you. Like time has made no mark.
Others have changed, but in ways that are not exactly shocking.
These people show a very clear picture of my life at that point.
I am not disappointed with the people I have met on Facebook so far, but I have to admit: I can think of a name or two I would rather not meet.
I guess you have to take the good with the bad.

To Janielle:
and anyone else that spent some real time in Red Deer
Does this ever bring back memories (I put my favorites in bold)
by some guy on Facebook.
You Know You're From Red Deer When...
...You've had at least 5 rig pigs try to pick you or your girlfriend up while hitting up Branleys
...You never know when to cheer for the Flames or the Oilers in the fear that if you cheer for the wrong team you'll get jumped.
...Your claim to fame is that you have met Ron Maclean and you think he is a saint
...You know not to go to parties in Innisfail or Lacombe unless you have more than 25 friends from either town
...You know that the city of Red Deer has more restauraunts and liquor stores per square mile than any other city in canada
...Your proud of the fact that at one point we owned the record for the longest played hockey game.
...Sylvan lake is sweet...but only in the summer time
...Cow tipping is bullshit...it doesnt actually happen
...The downtown bar scene is a crazy amount of fun which is really weird considering how weak the bars are
...You've been tobbagganing at michener hill and/or crossed the street and/or went down the slopes of what used to be woodlea ski hill
...Your scared of getting mugged in the superstore parking lot ... might be the hutterittes drinking in their grain truck or the drug addict that just crossed the street from the Big 'A'
...A place called "riverside meadows" is still and will always be referred to as lower fairview a.k.a. the ghetto, lower harlem, ... I grew up in that ghetto!
...Rosco was at one of my birthdays ... school activities ... etc ... When I was a kid I thought all clowns were named Rosco
...If you ever partied at Dope Road or Hell...or hid your booze in trees by Bower ponds before Canada Day festivities.
...If you have participated in underage drinking and/or sexual activity in the kin canyon area, and possibly even made out in the rocket ship.
...You know you are from Red Deer when you groan when people tell you they have been to RD and have really only seen Gasoline Alley.
...You know you are from RD when some one says dead reer and you actually understand what they mean.

Saskatchewan Talk
Damn, those kids in the bagged car who wanted me to pull for them, just resulted in me gibbling up my ankle when i tripped in that pothole. Now its going to be difficult to carry dainties, puffed wheat cake and vico back to my seat without spilling on my bunnyhug.
Translations:
-a bagged (adjective) car is in very bad shape
-gibbling your ankle is like twisting it
-to pull (verb) for someone is to buy the beer for them because they are underage, in Alberta you say boot (verb)
-I hope everyone has eaten puffed wheat squares or cake (made out of the cereal)
-Vico is chocolate milk, or kókó mjólk in Iceland
-a bunnyhug is a sweater with a hood and front pocket, The rest of Canada calls them hoodies

Kimmy!!
An exchange student from Australia that lived with us in Red Deer.
For one year she was the big sister I never had.
She survived my mother!
A superhero if you ask me.
Anyways, it is just funny because she seems exactly the same as I remember her, more then 10 years later.

So I have joined Facebook now and it is taking up a lot of my thoughts.
I was up half the night last night thinking of the names of everyone I had every called a friend.
Then I was looking them up.
Already I have found Denita that I went to school with in elementary, Kim who was an exchange student from Australia, Connie that I worked with, Chantel that I went to NAIT with.....
The list goes on.
It is so amazing how almost everyone is on here.
A total memory lane.
