In The Mail

Depending on what country you are in, hearing that something is in the mail can bring about a variety of feelings.
Living in Iceland, I spend a lot of time wondering about what goes on at the post office.
First of all, I do get the odd care package from home, and how long it takes to get to me is always a gamble. Should it be sent the slow way or the super expensive kinda quick way? The reasonably priced, but super slow way, can, at times, arrive when they say it will. Sometimes it takes months longer then they say it will. Never know, but it is almost a guarantee that if it is a Christmas present, no matter when it was sent, it will arrive around New Years.
Now parcels have some sort of insurance, and I am expecting them, so I have a feeling that the post office puts a little more effort into them, but postcards....
Everyone knows I am involved in postcrossing, (trading random cards with strangers around the world) but whatnot everyone knows is how long it takes most of these cards to get to me.
The other day I received a card, the came from the U.S., that had been traveling for 214 days, another one from the same country took almost a year at 361 days. And supposedly these were traveling air mail!
Other great examples include one from Canada at 71 days, Netherlands at 52 days, U.K. AT 50 OR Finland at 45, again all sent by Air Mail.
Now should I blame every other country for the slow slow mail, or maybe should I question the quality of the Icelandic Post?
Well I think that is enough complaining from me for the day, but it is something to think about while I wait for a parcel sent from my friend Janielle, from Canada, months ago.

So Cool

Every so often I realize how uncool I am.

Not that this really bothers me at all - but during some moments I think about this.

Tonight, while reading about my postcard stats in my postcard collection hobby I was thinking to myself - wow, so many from Finland. Everyone on people on Postcrossing often remark on how many cards are sent to and come from Finland.

I find this fascinating but when someone asks me at work tomorrow what I did tonight - I will not mention the postcards. At all.

Although I doubt they would know the answer, it would be nice if I worked with someone who thought around the same lines as me. Or had a similar interest.

The only people who have come to my house and seen my postcards look at me like I am crazy. I explain how I collect them and how it works, but I doubt anyone is listening.

Point is, I have no fun habits left. Can not even finish a beer myself without feeling sick. So I have my own fun things but I am not sure anyone can relate.

Maybe I am secretly super cool - or so great. But don't tell them about the postcards.

And if you got this far I should tell you that we are seriously trying for the third kid now and I think it might be going well...

Postcrossing

I wish I was as dedicated as this girl . I would like it if I found the time to document all my postcards. But I dont, so I guess you will just have to settle for a picture of the wall from time to time and if you want to see them up xclose and personal, just stop by.

Wall of postcards

This is my wall of postcards. It is the coolest, but as you can see it still has missing spot.
Send me postcards!
Email me if you lost my address!
I want mail!
OK OK I promise not to be evil, but it is looking so good. I have postcards from everywhere and now when people come over, they have to look at them all and see if they had been to these places.

Postcrossing

My newest hobby.

I love getting mail and now I can get mail from strangers.

I love sending mail and now I can take advantage of endless hours of sitting in a desk next to a try of postcards and a drawer of stamps.

I am going to postcard the world.

After all, who doesn't want a postcard from Iceland?

I think you should try it, I know a few of my friends would enjoy this.
