This is the time of year for government exams.
Not just any exams, but the ones that are used to rate the school.
Everyone is treated equal and no extra help is given to anyone.
Two days of straight exams. Seems like a lot for any 8 or 9 year old.
For the last 2 weeks the kids have been tested, drilled and pushed. Old exams have been sent home for them to practice. It reminds me of the Alberta Diploma exams.
Kasper has been extremely stressed out because they tell him to work harder and he will have to be faster and the world will end if these tests are not amazing.
Then, now here is the best part. Yesterday a teachers aid approaches me and suggests that Kasper not make it to school for the exams. She says it will not go well, he can not get any help and he is a distraction to the other children.
Now, I have to admit, the other children are not really my concern, but Kasper being given such a hard time is my concern and I do not like what this is doing to him.
I was also told he would not be the only one. Four other kids in his class are staying home and just missing the tests, it makes it better for the school.
I honestly do not know what to do.
Should I keep him home, spar him some needless stress and teach him that we just skip things we don't want to do?
Or do I send him to school, keep things fair, alienate the teachers and teach him about life?
It also seems slanted for the school to only have the best students take the exams.
What kind of country do I live in?
What kind of school system is this?
And what should I do with Kasper for the next two days?

ReplyDeleteIt's true Tye,
ReplyDeleteThe Icelandic education could use a little shake-up. I agree that running away from this problem isn't a solution. That's why we're going to fix it.
Cheers,

FIRST THINGS FIRST I SPENT THIRTY MINUTES TYPING THIS OUT ONCE STUPID LOST IT. I JUST WANTED TO MENTION COPY AND PASTE SO THIS WAY YOU DON'T LOSE IT
ReplyDeleteTHIS IS MY 12 CENTS!!!!!!
FIRST:
WHAT A SCREWED UP SYSTEM WHO THE HELL RATES SCHOOLS THAT WAY RATE THE TEACHER NOT THE STUDENT.
SECOND:
THE TEACHER DOES NOT LIVE OR PARENT IN YOU OWN HOME SO TELL THEM HOW AND WHERE TO STICK IT.
THIRD:
ASK THE TEACHER AS TO WHY THIS IS HAPPENING SO THAT WAY YOU CAN BROADEN THE SCOPE AS TO WHY THIS IS HAPPENING.
FORTH:
THE GOVERNMENT IS DOING THIS FOR A REASON ASK WHY CAUSE THERE SOME THING BIGGER GOING ON.
FIFTH:
IF THE TEACHER CAN AND WILL NOT GIVE YOU A STRAIGHT REASON AS TO WHY YOUR SON SHOULD NOT REALLY TAKE THIS TEST.. GO HUNTING, HUNT DOWN THE BIGGER GAME WORK YOU WAY UP THE LADDER OF POLITICS CAUSE YOU KNOW SOMEONE IS EITHER KISSING ASS OR TRYING TO SABOTAGE SOMEONE OR SOME THING.
SIXTH:
MAKE THE KID TAKE THE TEST IT BETTER TO SHOW THEM THAT ITS BETTER TO ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE AND TO LEARN FROM IT THEN IT IS TO RUN AWAY CRYING CAUSE YOU DON'T LEARN THAT WAY.
SEVENTH;
YOUR THE PARENT IF YOU DECIDE THAT YOU CHILD IS GOING TO TAKE THE TEST AND THE TEACHER FEELS DIFFERENT TELL THEM I PAY FOR MY CHILD'S SCHOOLING IT YOUR PROBLEM THAT THEY MAY BECOME A DISTRACTION SO MAKE ALTERNATIVE ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE CHILD TO TAKE THE TEST OUT SIDE OF THE CLASS, OTHER WISE YOU HAVE WASTED MY TIME ALONG WITH YOURS FOR SENDING PRACTICE EXAMS AND DOING PRACTICE DRILLS IN THE CLASSROOM
EIGHTH:
ASK YOU HUSBAND OR HIS PARENT IF THEY REMEMBER OF ANY THING LIKE THIS HAPPENING WHEN THEY WERE YOUNG.
NINTH:
ASK YOUR SELF WHAT WOULD YOU MOTHER OR FATHER HAVE DONE IN THE SAME SITUATION.
TENTH:
BY NOT SENDING YOUR KID TO SCHOOL BECAUSE THE TEACHER THINKS HE OR SHE IS A DISTRACTION WELL SORRY BUT I WOULD NOT TEACH MY KID THAT'S IT ALRIGHT TO RUN AWAY FROM SOMETHING CAUSE IT ONLY PROVES RUNNING AWAY FROM YOU PROBLEMS DOES NOT GET YOU ANY WHERE. MAKE THE CHILD DEAL WITH IT SHOWS THEM TO DEAL WITH THE FEAR AND STRESS THIS IN TURN HELPS THEM TO DEAL AND COPE WITH STRESS LATER ON IN LIFE.
ELEVEN:
WHAT COULD YOU DO WITH KASPER FOR TWO DAYS MAKE HIM INTO CHEAP LABOUR...LOL
TWELVE:
HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY... THIS WAS TYPED IN LETTER NOT OUT OF ANGER... IT MEANT SO THAT ITS CLEAR AND SO THAT YOU DON'T NEED A MAGNIFYING GLASS TO READ AND MOST OF ALL THIS IS MY ALL CANADIAN OLD SCHOOL WAY OF THINKING... I HOPE THAT OTHERS POST THERE THOUGHTS ON THIS MATTER AS WELL
This is insain! Im am so shocked that she asked you to keep Kasper home!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with dealing with these nuts!
All the best,
Laufey
